Let’s Support Local Bookstores

So, if you didn’t know, it’s always been a dream of mine to own a bookshop in D.C and honestly, if my life doesn’t go the way I plan, I just might do it. Now I love Barnes and Noble as much as the next bookworm, but in these times where local business are really being hit hard, it’s important to support local bookstores and shops in general. In an effort to help with that cause, here’s a list of independent bookstores that are still open for business online!

  1. Kramersbooks and Afterwards Cafe This is one of my favorite city secrets in DC. Located on Dupont Circle, Kramersbooks is a small bookstore and cafe that offers all types of books and delicious food!
  2. East City Bookshop Another DC city secret! East City Bookshop was one of my favorite places to go after school when I just wanted to sit somewhere cool and read while drinking my Starbucks. If you’re looking for multiple books, they have a subscription box that will send you some books and cool bookish doodads.
  3. Loyalty Bookshop After a long day of working at a summer camp with angsty yet energetic middle schoolers, it was nice to know that Loyalty Bookshop was right around the corner. With locations in Petworth and Silver Spring, it is one of the DMV’s cutest bookstores! Like East City Bookshop, it also has book bundles called Loyalty Bundles as well as really nice merch!
  4. Busboys and Poets If you know me, you know this is one of my absolute favorite places to eat. And what makes it better is that it has a bookstore too! If you live in the DMV area, I would highly recommend not only checking out their bookstore but their food too!
  5. Prince Books On one of my weekends, while I was at school, I decided to explore the Downtown Norfolk area and happened upon this beauty. Prince Books is a small bookshop with a little cafe attached to it and I absolutely fell in love with it when I went in!

These are just a few of my favorites but if you want to support a local bookstore in your own area, check out IndieBound’s bookstore finder or head to bookshop.org to find your new favorite bookstore!
